I won an open call for a commission to design the interior of the showcase room of the new Art Hostel in Leeds

The brief was to create a space inspired by the local history of Leeds’ dockyard and the good works of the Riverside Mission Institute that reached out to the ‘bargees and vagrants’ of Victorian and Edwardian Leeds until the 1950s.

My design for the room’s interior included a feature wall using my hand cut, collaged wallpapers. I used scans of antique photographs, kindly sourced through Leeds City Archives and Leeds Library’s Leodis Photographic Archive, before adding hand printed textures and gold foil.

The brief covered the rest of the room as well, and I was tasked with replacing a mock-1970's fireplace with a period Arts and Crafts iron front, crafting period feature window shutters and installing a lending library in a reading corner with screen printed handmade cushions.
